Dr Jo Casebourne, Chief Executive of Foundations, commented:
“The passage of the Children’s Wellbeing & Schools Act last week marks a landmark step in improving the lives of vulnerable children and families.
“With a new right to family group decision-making now enshrined into law, underpinned by evidence generated by Foundations, thousands more children will have the opportunity to stay safely within their family networks.
“A range of welcome, ambitious reforms will be realised through this legislation: from new safeguarding models and a unique identifier for every child, to support for care leavers and a clear local offer for kinship families.
“As the national What Works Centre for Children & Families, we will continue to support local areas to implement these measures by generating evidence and working with them to put them into practice.”
