Responding to the 2025 Spending Review, Dr Jo Casebourne, Chief Executive of Foundations, said:
“Too often we intervene too late in the lives of vulnerable children, leading to poorer outcomes felt throughout a child’s life. Providing evidence-based support before families reach crisis point has the potential to change this. That’s why we’re really pleased to see the announcement of a new £555m over the spending review period to reform children’s social care through early intervention, on top of the £500m announced earlier this year.
“We also welcome the additional £560m allocated to refurbish and expand children’s homes and to provide more foster care placements. Ensuring this new investment continues to focus on what has been shown to improve outcomes for children will be key to meeting the ambitions of the children’s social care reforms. The expansion of Family Hubs – where families can access crucial support – is also a welcome announcement.
“We look forward to upcoming strategies to tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG) and child poverty, both of which have lasting, damaging impacts on children’s lives.”
